If you want to save money without sacrificing beauty, you'll discover that it is entirely possible to make your own bridal bouquet.

First, let's start by thinking about making a silk bouquet. You can practice on a silk bouquet that you are going to throw to your bridesmaids, and then you will be an expert with fresh flowers, then you can make your own bridal bouquets at a fraction of the cost a florist will charge.

A silk bouquet has the benefit of being colorful and long lasting. Consider the color scheme of the wedding, as well as how tall or petite you are. Petite brides look best in a smaller bouquet, and if you are on the tall side by all means make a larger bouquet, better yet, make your own bridal bouquet a cascading type.

Remember that when you select the flowers, you may want to choose a number of different sizes, and several different types of flowers if you want a complex look for your clean lined dress. On the other hand, make your own bridal bouquet simple, and it will be quite striking if you have a very detailed dress.

You can make a gorgeous calla lily bridal bouquet, or an orchid bridal bouquet, or experiment with colors. Many brides dream of a pink bridal bouquet, a sentimental blue bridal bouquet or silk bridal bouquets for the wedding party and any children attendants. Roses, carnations and calla lilies are all great choices for your floral bouquet, with roses being the most forgiving when handled. You will want to add something smaller that will fill in the gaps, like baby's breath, lily of the valley or even miniature rosebuds. Greenery set as a backdrop to your wedding flowers is an important element to include.

Consider whether or not you want to use bouquet holders. For a beautiful professional look, make your own bridal bouquet using a decorative bouquet holder that you can attach all your flowers with. You can also achieve the same effect with florist's tape that has been covered with some satin silver ribbon. When you want to get an idea of what your bouquet will look like, stand in front of a mirror in your wedding dress, then get a tall plastic cup and start arranging. You may want your larger flowers in the middle surrounded by smaller buds, or perhaps you would like to have a wild profusion of different flowers mixed together.

Bridal bouquets can be make in several shapes and sizes. The classic hand tied bouquet is anchored by using a bouquet cup, florists wire or tape. A Beidermeier is a dramatic display of contrasting flower colors, set in concentric circles, rings of flowers. a good color choice would be deep red roses against creamy white roses and greenery. A cascade is a waterfall spill of flowers. You can even make a ballerina bouquet with masses of tulle, netting and just a few roses and greens. This was a popular choice in the early 1940's when flowers were hard won due to the second world war. When you have finally decided on the shape, experiment with placement, using silk flowers until you get the hang of it. Tape the stems together and trim off the bottom. Then using some florists tape wind it down the stem and back up again, securing with a pin or a dab of hot glue.

If you are going to make a fresh bouquet, you are going to need to plan ahead so that everything will be done in time for the wedding. Make sure that the flowers for the floral bouquet arrive two days before the event and that you have a design in mind. Look at pictures for inspiration. After the flowers arrive, put them in water and mist with a florists preservative spray.

If you want a large bouquet, wrap the flowers into smaller groups and then bind the groups together. You can use the same method for a fresh bouquet as you would for a silk bouquet just by putting them into a tall plastic cup as you arrange them. Use florist's tape to hold the stems together and then cover it with satin ribbon in the color of your choice. A string of ribbon and baby pearls is a pretty touch cascading down from your bouquet.

After you have created a fresh bouquet, do keep in mind the fact that you need to store it. You can use the refrigerator and dip in cold water. Congratulate yourself on a beautiful frugal bridal bouquet that looks anything but, and remember to let the flowers air dry before you walk down the isle!
