Cheap family fun beats video games and amusement parks any day. When your family works together to create something, you’re building a memory that is unique to your family. Games that your family makes up will be talked about in stories that your will children tell their own children. Crafts that you do together will stay on shelves and in scrapbooks for generations. Make Your Own Games It’s not as difficult as you might think to make your own games, and it’s one of the most fun cheap things to do in the world. All a game really needs is rules and a way to win. You can combine parts from other games, such as playing basketball and soccer at the same time, or you can make your own game entirely from scratch, such as a board game. Making board games is particularly fun because these games require a lot of planning. For instance, you can create a game where the object is to move pieces around a board after rolling dice. Each of the squares in the game can have a specific direction or number of points, such as moving forward two spaces. You can also incorporate special cards to add fun to the game. Remember that adding traps to your board game adds excitement during game play, even if you wouldn’t want to land on the traps yourself.

You can make lots of crafts out of things you would normally throw away, such as egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, and boxes. Try saving a box of odds and ends for craft projects, and then work together to see what you can make. A particularly fun project that can be very inexpensive is to take old shoeboxes and build dioramas inside. Any scene can be portrayed using a combination of markers, colored paper, small objects, and glue. These dioramas make excellent decorations when hung on a wall. Another easy craft project that is sure to delight any child (and many adults as well) is glitter painting. Any project that involves glitter is destined to be a hit, but this particular project is inexpensive and easy for even children to master. All you need is glitter, glue, and paper. To make a glitter painting, start by printing out or drawing an outlined picture, like a coloring book. Then, choose a color for a specific area and paint glue lightly in the area that will be that color. Sprinkle glitter over the glue, shake off the excess glitter, and move on to the next area. Similar to a paint by numbers kit, the dramatic reveal of a final image is very satisfying for many people. And with such awesome easy craft projects like these, your entire family will be entertained for hours making beautiful works of art for your children to display.
