Filipino Food Recipes

Filipino food recipes make excellent frugal gourmet dishes out of simple ingredients. This rich culinary culture includes Hispanic, Asian, and American influences, resulting in a truly unique variety of healthy dinner recipes.

When preparing Filipino food recipes, you might notice some exotic ingredients including some meats not normally used in Western cuisine. These are easy to find at most Asian markets, but for the squeamish, there are also plenty of tamer Filipino food recipes.

Frugal Recipes

One of the best Frugal Recipes for Filipino food is the eggplant omelet, also known as Tortang Talong. To make this dish, roast an eggplant in the oven, peel the skin off, dip the eggplant in raw egg that has been scrambled, and fry the whole thing in olive oil.

Some people like to add Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper to the egg mixture. You can also fry up the entire egg mixture for a more conventional omelet. Usually, one would eat this dish over rice. You can eat this dish for breakfast, but it’s appropriate and filling at any meal.

Arroz caldo is one of the most popular Filipino food recipes around, particularly as a comfort food. It is very similar to Congee. While it’s not exactly frugal gourmet, it is delicious and great for when you’re feeling blue.

To make Arroz Caldo, first brown a chicken thigh in a pot. When you flip the chicken, add seasonings such as garlic, shallots, salt, and pepper. Once the chicken has fully browned, add a cup of uncooked sticky rice, a tablespoon of fish sauce, two cups of chicken stock, and a little bit of shredded fresh ginger.

Cover the mixture and bring it to a simmer, then cook it while stirring until it looks a little like lumpy pudding, adding water if it gets too thick. Be careful not to let it burn on the bottom. Some people add a boiled egg when serving Arroz Caldo, which is a delicious addition to the meal.

Like many frugal recipes, this dish is made with Chicken and rice. However, the basic concept can be applied to almost anything. Using broth to cook rice into a gruel-like mixture can make some delicious Inexpensive Meals when you’re short on funds.

Healthy Dinner Recipes

When you’re on the lookout for Frugal Recipes, Filipino food has lots of options. A Filipino chicken noodle soup called sotanghon is healthy and filling.

To make Sotanghon, first heat a little oil in the pot you’re making the soup in. Sauté half an onion and a few cloves of garlic in the oil. Then, add a cup of chopped up chicken meat, four sliced Shitake mushrooms, and a tablespoon of fish sauce to the mix, and allow the mixture to cook for about three minutes covered.

Next, add six cups of chicken stock to the pot, and when it begins to boil, add a fistful of cellophane noodles. Once the noodles are cooked, the soup is ready!
