Magic Madzik Courtesy of Magic Madzik Crockpot Cooking Recipes The basic idea when using a crockpot is to put substantive ingredients in liquid and let them cook for hours. Whether or not the liquid ends up being part of the final meal, it’s good to use something flavorful because the liquid will be at least partially defining the flavor of the meal. This is why many people use a soup stock to cook with. You need to make sure that the liquid covers any meats, but you likely won’t need as much liquid as you might normally for a stew or dish made on the stove. A crockpot has very little evaporation, so you don’t lose much water. It’s literally impossible to burn food in a crockpot, although overcooked meat and vegetables get tasteless after cooking for too long.
