Crockpot Cooking Recipes

When your budget is tight but you still want to eat healthy, crockpot cooking recipes can be the answer to a fit dinner. No matter what kind of crockpot meals you like, you can stuff your dinner full of veggies and really comes out ahead. Healthy dinner recipes for crockpots are as easy to construct as other recipes. With crockpots, though, you can be almost certain that if the ingredients that go in are healthy, the resulting meal will be pretty healthy too.

While it’s true that you can always use salt and fat to make a dish taste good, spices are the way to go with crockpot cooking. Items like bay leaves and oregano really have a chance to shine in crockpot meals. A crockpot roast, for instance, will absorb the flavors or whatever it is cooked in. Instead of trying to cover up the meat with salt, this is a great opportunity to use dried herbs to enhance its flavor.

Crockpot Roast

A crockpot roast is one of the best recipes around because the way in which the meat is cooked makes it the most tender it can possibly be. It’s not one of the many healthy dinner recipes that can be made in a crockpot, but for a warm, comforting meal that requires little work, it’s the best.

To begin, you simply fill the bottom of the crockpot with carrots, onions, and potatoes in whatever quantities you enjoy. Then, you add your beef roast, cover it all with water, and let it cook for ten hours or so. You can do chicken this way, but cheap cuts of beef are often better. Once you’ve got this basic recipe down, you can add whatever you like to it: dried herbs, lemon juice, or even broth.

Crockpot Meals

Most people think of crockpot meals as a sloppy affair in only one dish. This, however, is what keeps crockpot cooking recipes from becoming healthy dinner recipes. If you pair your crockpot meals with raw vegetable sides which take no dishes to prepare, you both improve the healthiness of the dish and vary the texture of the meal. A raw bell pepper or green beans eaten with crockpot meals can really make you feel a lot better about the meal. When paired with raw veggies, crockpot cooking recipes can be appropriate every night.

Healthy Dinner Recipes

Within the crockpot, very little escapes. The low cooking temperature means that the meal cannot be burned, although it can get overcooked. With so little accidents possible, you might wonder what can go wrong?

The main thing to worry about when eating crockpot roast or other recipes is whether or not the long cooking time is destroying all the important vitamins in the food. If nutrition becomes a concern, eating crockpot cooking recipes every night might not be a very good idea. If it is necessary to use a crockpot, making sure that everything used in the crockpot is healthy is a great way to start. Crockpot meals are most healthy when they are vegetarian, use little salt or oils, and are not allowed to cook for extremely long periods of time. Following these guidelines, healthy dinner recipes can be prepared in crockpots.
