Bantam Chicken BreedsA bantam chicken is a smaller version of the regular types of chickens of the standard size.Some bantam chickens have originated from Regular sized Chicken Breeds to retain the characteristics of that breed, but in a smaller version. Others are true bantams, which have remained unchanged for centuries, many of them rare chicken breeds, being totally unique. Bantams, sometimes referred to as Bantie Hens, or Easter Egg Chickens are said to have more personality than regular chickens in that they are, well, plucky! They are better able to find food and care for themselves owing to their high opinion of their own capabilities, correct or not.This confident attitude makes them very fun to keep, and they are known to be curious and vocal about what they have "discovered." 
Bantam chickens overall do best in small flocks of three hens and one rooster, and need far less space than a flock of regular Types of Chickens. This makes them the first choice of city or suburban folks to have eggs and a little bit of the country at their home, regardless of where home actually is. You will need two or three to make up to a regular chicken egg size. Of all the types of chickens, bantam hens are the best mothers. They can and will set on any eggs and see them to hatching. Chicken tractors are easily moved about so the gardener can run one up and down their garden and consider it both fertilized and weeded with no effort on their part. Not bad for a days work!
