How I ended up being the queen of Frugal Living... And built a website about it too... By the time I was in my teens, creative frugal living ideas kept following me around. I would make up games with myself about how to save money on everything from groceries, rent, gas and those all important fun times and trips with friends. Now I worked hard for myself at home on our farm, carrying 5 babies and raising them while almost single handedly earning an income equal to the top 5% in the nation. I have an unquenchable entrepreneurial spirit and maybe you do too. So money flowed, the economy was great and overhead was low, except for the grocery bill for seven people. I grew gardens, free ranged chickens, baked bread, lived in a small house and focused on family, not buying things. Think I'm bragging? I am not, I promise. Sooo, The Queen of Frugal Living changed her priorities and bought a big house in another town and suddenly had two mortgages, two sets of utility bills, two households and a farm to take care of, and of course the endless needs of my customers. Everything was good for years until suddenly it wasn't. My husbands business dried up, followed by the housing market tanking, the government was getting bailouts and I was drowning in mountains of work and debt trying to save our family. What happened next was ugly and I vowed never to allow anyone, any economy, or any government to shake me and my children's very security to the bone and throw us to the wolves. So we packed up, gave the house back and moved a four story house and seven people into a severely dilapidated 3 bedroom trailer. All my nice things were shoved into dirty outbuildings, the kids doubled up in little bedrooms, and I write to you now from my 10x12 sf room, which is my bedroom, my office and where I have spent the last year writing this frugal living site. Are you worried in this economy? Do you want to stay and work at home? Do you crave freedom from your boss, your debts, is your life slipping away just trying to make the mortgage payment? My Mother and Father- They are in their 80's and have developed one of the most respected offline international businesses in a great niche market.
